Description
Villacidro's Cerexia Barracocca cherry tree is a traditional variety included in the long history of cherry cultivation in Sardinia, attested as early as the 18th century. Spread mainly in small plots and vineyards, it is one of the many local cultivars selected over time. The Sardinian toponyms derived from the Latin cerasus testify to the ancient presence of this speciesand on the island, and the name Cerexia still preserves its memory in the territory of Villacidro and in other centres of Sardinia.
